Recovery Month in Cambridge 2024

In observance of Recovery Month, the Cambridge Public Health Department’s Mental and Behavioral Health Promotion unit, along with the City of Cambridge, is hosting events in September to raise awareness about mental and substance use disorders, celebrate individuals in recovery, and acknowledge the work of prevention, treatment, and recovery support services. This year’s theme is the “Art of Recovery.”

International Overdose Awareness Day

August 31

On August 29,  Cambridge Public Health Department partnered with the City Manager’s office, Cambridge Police Department, Community Safety Department and Access Drug User Health Program to hold an event for International Overdose Awareness Day. Staff from partnering organizations planted 25 flags to represent the lives of the 25 Cambridge residents lost to overdose in 2023. Harm reduction and health promotion materials were distributed to attendees.

Narcan Trainings 

September 9

On Monday, September 9, the Cambridge Public Health Department will hold an in-person Narcan training open to all at the main branch of the Cambridge Public Library at 5:30 p.m. Topics include general opioid education and how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose. Can’t make this date? The Cambridge Health Department holds monthly virtual overdose prevention training

An additional in-person training opportunity is available in Somerville at the Central Somerville Public Library on September 12 at 5:00 p.m.

Narcan Distribution Event

September 27

On Friday, September 27, join the Cambridge Public Health Department at the Cambridge Public Library in Central Square from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. for a Narcan Distribution event. We will be handing out free Narcan and other harm reduction supplies. Keep an eye on Instagram for details and updates.

Panel Discussion “Building the Foundation for Youth Wellbeing”

September 30

Are you a parent or caregiver of an elementary school-aged child? Do you want to hear about how to support positive development throughout their childhood? The upcoming “Building the Foundation for Youth Wellbeing” event will help you learn more about how to foster youth wellness and explore resources in Cambridge.
