Cambridge Celebrates Menís Health Month

Hoops 'N' Health scheduled for June 15

The Men’s Health League and community partners will host the annual Hoops ‘N’ Health sports tournament and other events this June to celebrate Men’s Health Month.
The Men’s Health League, based at the Cambridge Public Health Department, is a comprehensive men’s wellness program that promotes routine screenings, fitness and a healthy diet, and regular visits to a physician.
Cambridge kicked off Men’s Health Month with the annual Boys to Men Leadership Brunch on Saturday, June 1, hosted by the Men's Health League, Men of Color Task Force, and Putnam Avenue Upper School. The event featured a panel discussion of Cambridge men sharing personal experiences about health; break-out sessions on race, education, and health; and an awards ceremony.
  • The Henry A. Lewis III Health Leadership Award was presented to Michelle Carter Farnum, Assistant Director for Children, Youth and Families, Cambridge Department of Human Service Programs. 
  • The Sion Chambers Community Health Award was presented to Mirko J. Chardin, Founding Principal, Putnam Avenue Upper School.
On Saturday, June 15, the Men’s Health League, in partnership with the Men of Color Task Force, is hosting the 26th annual Hoops ‘N’ Health sports tournament and health fair from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Hoyt Field in Cambridge. The event will feature a basketball tournament, an “Ask a Health Care Provider” table and health screenings, live entertainment, information about community programs, kids’ activities, and a free healthy lunch.
