Family Flu Clinics On Oct. 26 and Nov. 2

Kids and adults can receive free flu shots

October 20, 2017

The flu (short for "influenza") can be a serious illness. The best way to protect yourself and your loved ones from influenza is to get a flu shot every year. A flu shot is recommended for all adults and children age 6 months and older.
The Cambridge Public Health Department is offering free flu shots to children over 6 months and adults in Cambridge at the Kennedy-Longfellow School on Oct. 26 and the Peabody School on Nov. 2. While there is no charge to the public for flu shots, people with health insurance are encouraged to bring their cards with them to the clinics.
The nasal spray flu vaccine (trade name FluMist®) is not available this season due to ongoing concerns about its effectiveness. In addition, the public health department is unable to offer high-dose flu vaccine for seniors.  The high-dose vaccine is widely available at most Cambridge pharmacies.
A Cambridge flu clinic for adults was held on Oct. 18 at the Citywide Senior Center.
For more information, visit the health department's flu clinic web page. To listen to a recording of the flu clinic schedule, call 617-665-3855.
Please note that many doctors’ offices and local pharmacies are also offering flu shots this fall.
